Don’t Miss Great Careers; Deadline is Feb. 1
Gibson Ek families, consider encouraging your student to attend the district’s Great Careers Conference, scheduled this year on Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Lake Washington Institute of Technology in Redmond. Deadline is Feb. 1! Access the registration portal AND download the required permission form (students should turn in to Casey or Cathy) on the registration page here.
Great Careers is a really terrific opportunity to learn more about often-quite-lucrative careers that don’t necessarily require a four-year college degree. They’ll hear from dozens of professionals who work in careers that hire people right out of high school, or that require less time in school, such as a two-year degree, a professional certificate, or an apprenticeship. Examples usually include medical careers, law enforcement and military, hospitality, entrepreneurship / small business, trades such as construction, welding, electrical and plumbing, and even tech-related careers in hardware and software -- and many others. Lots of schools and training programs attend as well. The school district and the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce sponsor it, so these are typically Issaquah or nearby Eastside professionals.
Note that students will need to find their own transportation home, as our field trip bus is scheduled to leave GE at 11:30 a.m. and return at 2:50 p.m. We don’t have late afternoon school buses on T-Th. Students should plan to be at school by 11 a.m., and they’ll need to let their mentors know that they will be missing their internship that day.
